カナダのウォータールー大学経済学部教授のラリースミス氏による演説。
ウィットに富んだ、700万を超える再生回数を誇る講演です。
15分の講演ですが、一瞬で聴き終わってしまうほど惹き込まれます。

★心に響いた言葉
"your creativity in thinking of excuses not to do what you really need to do if you want to have a great career."
Unless -- "unless," that most evocative of all English words -- "unless."
But the "unless" word is also attached to that other, most terrifying phrase,
"If only I had ..." "If only I had ..."
If you ever have that thought ricocheting in your brain, it will hurt a lot.
★感想
もっと若い頃に聴きたかったな、というのが第一の感想でした。
この演説の受け止め方は人それぞれでしょうね。
家庭を持つ前の若い頃の自分ならば、この演説で鼓舞され、言い訳しそうになる自分をぐっと堪えて前に進めたかもしれません。
「独身で若い頃の自分ならば、」
これも演者に言わせれば、excuseなんだと思いますが…笑
個人的には、ひとつをつきつめるよりもバランス良く得たいと思ってしまいます。
You can't have everything.
だけれど、
You can have everything, which is not perfect but is fully comfortable for you.
そんな感じが人生のsatisfactionと思い日々生きています。
自身はどちらかというと、
最近読んだこちらの本のほうが、自分の価値観に近かったですね。
